Being Assertive and Getting What You Want

The Importance Of Assertiveness

Throughout 15 years of assisting people with their relationship issues I’ve become increasingly aware of the importance of assertiveness.

Assertiveness is the ability to express our feelings, opinions, beliefs and needs in a direct, open and honest way. It is a communication style that enables us to speak ‘our truth’ in a non-offensive and respectful way that allows others to maintain their right to a different opinion and their personal integrity.

Say It Again, To My Face! I Dare You!

After my last article on confidence I had to write a related follow-up. I was attending a networking event and I overheard some say when asked what they did…”I’m just a…salesman”. I thought wow. How many times did I say that myself. I’m just a… It shook me to my core. So I started listening to everyone who I had the pleasure of meeting. Without fail approximately one in three started their introduction when asked what they did with, “I’m just a…”. Which was then followed by a weak and less than pleasant hand shake and eyes looking at the floor shuffle.

Life Coaching Is Successful

Accounts of the effectiveness of executive coaching have proven returns on investments of more than 500%. No like studies have been done regarding life coaching and quite honestly, a human life has fewer valued metrics than business so that anyone could measure coaching. However coaching executives have little more to do with business than coaching people on their lives does – even executive coaching in essence comes down to life coaching – so there’s no reason to imagine the ROI in life coaching, if it were calculable, would be any different. In truth when it comes to coaching, clients’ lives change impressively. I have seen it over and over again. How does is it possible? One could compose novels on the topic, but here I will expand on a few high-level reasons.

Why do bad things happen to good people? Bad things don’t just happen to good people, they happen to every single one of us. Which Voice Do You Feed?

As a woman entrepreneur, my vision is for work environments that support and sustain life; that invite health, humor, compassion and truth. We succeed without having to sacrifice our integrity or anyone else’s. We take part in creating something greater than ourselves; be part of something where the whole is more than the sum of its parts; a place where magic and miracles are a part of life. We are able to grow and expand; to stretch; and finally, to spread our wings and fly. Our experience of flight stands as a model of what’s possible and a testimony to our courage to take the risks that will bring joy, vitality and delight back into the realm of day-to-day living.
