Depending upon the time of year and the season, you are going to find that there are going to be different types of upcoming sports events that are coming to your area. Of course, there are events that are going to happen around the same time each year regardless. These would include the Olympics including the winter sports and the summer ones as well. Certain times of the year you are going to find that you will be able to watch football and others you are going to be able to watch tennis. It all depends upon what you are into and what you are looking to watch.

Some sports will actually start out in one season and finish in another. For example, American football will start out in the summer and then end in the winter. This is great for fans because they have the opportunity to get their fill for sometime before the season ends. If you are someone that enjoys winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding, you may be looking forward to the winter months so you can see what is happening with your favorite teams and players. Of course if you are a summer person than you may look forward to baseball or perhaps soccer during the warmer months.

Of course there are sports that do not require a time of season if they are played indoors. Indoor hockey is one of them since they can play year round on the ice and not have to worry about whether it is cold or not outside but the winter months are the most popular time to play. As of now, people are starting to look forward to the Olympics as teams and players are currently training and getting ready for the games to begin. This is a very exciting time for those that are trying to make the teams so that they can compete for their country.

If you are looking for what it happening in your area, all you have to do is jump online and see what it happening in or around your town. Perhaps you live somewhere that they have motor cross competition and you are looking for the next competition. By simply looking online or in your local newspaper you are going to be able to find just what is happening in your area so that you can plan accordingly. This is a great idea if you are looking for tickets to give to someone for a special occasion such as a birthday or a holiday.

Finding upcoming sports events is not difficult when you look online to see what is happening. You are going to find that things are happening depending upon the season that you are looking and whether or not you prefer indoor or outdoor events. You will be able to find all of your favorites such as golf, swimming, football, cycling and even soccer. Everything that you are looking for can be right at your fingertips with the click of a mouse.

Ultimate Frisbee can be explained in ten simple rules. These are simple to learn; and help provide a fun safe atmosphere for athletes of all ages.

The sport is played on a rectangular grass field, with the dimensions measuring 64m by 37m. At both ends of the field are end zones which measure another 18m deep each. I suggest you find a nice open area which tends to have little wind. This is typical in low areas such as valleys, or quads surrounded by buildings.

My friends and I normally use red cones to mark the front and back corners of each end zone, creating the layout of the field. However, you can use anything to mark these eight points, as we have used our change of clothes, shoes, and bags in the past.

To begin play, you’ll need two teams of seven, although, less than seven can still be fun. However, I must warn you, a two on two matches can be pretty intense. At the beginning of each point both teams line up at their respective end zones and one team throws to the other, much like a kick-off in American Football. This act is known as the “pull”.

When advancing the frisbee to try and score, there are a few things each team needs to be aware of. First, players cannot run with the frisbee. If sprinting when making a catch, it is acceptable to run out one’s momentum. Typically this means three steps; and some players may call a penalty if you abuse this rule. Second, players can move the disc in any direction. Passes need not always be advancements. Last, the handler of the frisbee has ten seconds to throw, and it is the defender’s job to call out a stall count when guarding him.

To score, a team must advance the frisbee, through tosses only, into the end zone of the defending team. Again this is very similar to American Football. The receiver of the throw must have both feet within the perimeter of the end zone, otherwise he is considered out of bounds, and the point does not count. After each point, the team which just scored “pulls” the disc and the defending team is now on offense.

Change of possession also occurs when a pass is not completed. This can be due to a blocked pass, an out of bounds, a missed catch, or an interception. All of these instances result in the defense immediately taking control of the disc and becoming the offense.

Typically, teams have more than seven people, which I highly recommend. This allows for substitutions when teammates become fatigued. And trust me, you will get tired. These substitutions are allowed only after a point has been scored or an injury timeout occurs.

And yes, injuries can occur even though Ultimate is a non-contact sport. This means players are not allowed to have any physical contact with each other. This isn’t to say that when two people bump in mid air while jumping for a disc that you should stop play. However, if the collision looks like it was intentional, or turns out to be pretty bad, then it is wise to call a foul. It is important to note that picks and screens are also prohibited in Ultimate.

Fouls are called when two people make physical contact. If the foul results in interference of possession, the original team retains control of the disc. If a player disputes the foul call however, the play is redone.

These foul calls are up to the players. In Ultimate, players self-referee. They are responsible for resolving any disputes, fouls, line calls or similar mishaps. For this reason, it is best everyone remain calm, open-minded, and always give the benefit of doubt to the opposing player.

And the most important thing to remember is something players refer to as “the spirit of the game.” This rule stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Ultimate is about goals and competition but this should never be the case at loss of respect for fellow athletes, the rules, and just plain fun.

Now that you know these ten simple rules for play, it is time for you to go out and have a fun, safe time. Work up a sweat and feel good about yourself. Ultimate is a great way to clear one’s mind and build a healthy body all at the same time.

The higher your score the better, right? In most sports you’d be correct. However, golf is one of the few sports where less is more. In order to beat your competition, you must have less strokes than your opponent. To put it another way, the lower your score, the greater the chance is for success. Since every stroke or swing counts toward your score, you want to make sure that you maximize your potential with each swing. This makes it very important to have a good swing.

It is vital to learn the correct mechanics of the golf swing. This way, after practicing, it become second nature, and is the last thing that a golfer is thinking about when they are actually playing a round. The saying practice makes perfect is only ture if you are practicing the proper mechanics. Your muscles will remember what they need to do during a swing. However, if you are teaching your muscles the wrong mechanics, than you’ll never be successful. You want to spend a lot of practice time working on your swing so that when it’s go time your muscles will know what to do. Leaving your mind open to focus on the job at hand.

Practice your swing out at the driving range. You should take note of experienced golfers and what they are doing with their mechanics. Don’t just step up and wack the ball. Address the ball as you would if you were on the course. Train your muscles to work together so that your mechanics are smooth and fluid. When your think your ready, hit the lynx and put your swing to the test. Just be sure that when you’re swinging your clubs, you’re not thinking about your swing. Your focus should always be, where on the course you want your ball to land. Always remember this, a bad day on the golf course is always better than a good day at work. Good luck and I wish you much success.

Sport injuries are a very common thing among athletes, and maybe the most annoying one too. Picture it, you are at the top of your game, and suddenly you are struck by an injury and cannot train for a longer period of time. It is most frustrating, it sets back your progress, and sometimes even completely stops you from ever playing or participating in a sporting event again. Of course, there are many ways to prevent this from happening, but sometimes it is not up to you at all.

A sports injury is described as an injury that happens to athletes participating in sporting events. They are most caused by an overuse of a certain body part, but the other type, which is much more painful usually, are traumatic injuries. These mostly occur in contact sports (like football, handball, American football etc), due to the fact that there is a lot of collision involved between players. Such collisions have huge amounts of force, and it is no surprise that this can lead to broken bones or even organ damage. Other sports injuries also include muscle strain, a tear of the muscle fibers, contusions, where the small blood vessels are damaged causing bleeding within the tissue, and ligament sprain, a stretched or torn ligament. All these injuries lead to inflammation, causing pain, heat, redness, loss of function and local swelling. This is usually the same for all internal injuries for the first few days.

To prevent such injuries from even showing up, athletes warm-up before any physical training they do. These warm-ups include stretching, raising the heart pulse, and slowly starting any activity, not rushing into it. Sports injuries can also be prevented by using proper equipment, which is constantly being improved to minimize any such injury.

Sport injuries can happen to all sorts of body parts, like foots, toes, legs, ankles, knees, thighs, hips, back, shoulders, elbows. The most common injuries, or the most commonly injured body parts are:

Knee injuries are one of the most occurring sport injuries. This is due to the fact that made up of four different parts, and because in almost any sport you need to use your legs, and this can easily wear off the components in your knee. With a knee injury you can have difficulties walking, any may even need a replacement.

Dislocations are injuries where the ends of your bones are forced out of position. This happens often in contact sports, and recovery can last for a couple of weeks. You cannot move that joint during that time.

Fractures are breaks of the bones. These can happen due to overuse of certain body parts. The bone will not usually break all the way, but it will have tiny fractures in it. To recover from this you will sometimes need to wear a cast, or even have surgery, which uses screws, plates or pins to keep the bones in place.

Other health problems in sports that can sideline a player are diseases. They are all human, and a therefore affected by all sorts of colds, coughs or some other, maybe even more dangerous diseases. But the most harmful thing that can happen to an athlete are organ problems. Such an example is Spain’s footballer Ruben de la Red. He is only 25 years old, and he had to end his promising sports career because of serious heart problems, which even caused him to collapse during a game back in 2008. It is a sad a cruel faith for any players, because he spent his whole life working hard to achieve something in sports, only to have it all taken from him.

Sports injuries are a common thing in sporting events. The best way to prevent them is with proper warm-up and usage of good equipment, but sometimes nothing can help you from stopping participating in the sport you love.

Badminton is a fantastic sport. Not only is it great fun and a good opportunity to socialize with like minded people, but there are also many health benefits of playing badminton.

Let’s take a look at a few of these now.

Flexibility – no one can deny that Badminton improves your flexibility in most of the major muscles, including the hamstrings, erector spinae, pectorals, triceps and many other areas. It’s an absolute necessity that good players maintain a healthy level of flexibility in all of these muscles. Whilst stretching hasn’t been proven to have a positive effect before playing, there is certainly plenty of evidence to prove that it is beneficial afterwards.

Strength – Obviously your upper body won’t gain too much strength due to playing Badminton, but your forearms, thighs and calves will be sufficiently challenged to improve their strength and power. Anyone who has ever done a series of jump smashes back to back will testify to the huge challenge this places on the thighs muscles.

Muscular Endurance – Absolutely vital to any Badminton players, it’s the ability to keep going right to the end of a match. Virtually every muscle group has to continuously contract in a long game of badminton. From the calves right up to the shoulders.

Heart and Lungs – Again Badminton places a very challenging workload on the heart. Those who regularly play singles or against a particularly good doubles pairing will agree with me on this one. Short bursts of all out effort are often required in quick fire rallies which can often last for well over 10 shots per point. This series of stop start action, intense activity interspersed with short periods of rest is very much like interval training which is rapidly becoming one of the most popular types of fitness training techniques.

Mobility – As we age our joints can become less fluid or moveable. The connective tissue and bone endings can become worn and are therefore not as mobile as when we were younger. It’s important as we age to maintain a certain amount of movement in our joints otherwise both our posture and the performance of simple everyday tasks becomes much more of a challenge. Badminton helps to lubricate and mobilise almost all the joints on the body so again it’s a very useful sport to take part in.

These are just a few of the most obvious health benefits of playing Badminton, but what many people overlook is the social side of the sport. Not only for meeting and interacting with people who share the same passion for the sport as you, but more so for the bringing together of people who love to use and challenge their bodies in a way that can actually improve their health and well being the way that Badminton can do.

Have you been trying to decide if it is a good idea for you to learn to play golf, but don’t know if this is the right decision? Then you have to be aware of the reasons why it is a good idea for anyone to learn how to play.

There are many reasons for different people, but the following are some of the most common reason.

One: Having fun – This is the main reason that many people learn to play this game. It is also a reason you should learn to play. Having fun at a sport that is good for you is a great way to spend the day.

Plus, it gives you the chance to get away from everyday stress and relax.

Two: Healthy sport – Many people don’t realize it, but golf is a sport that will help keep you in good health. There is a lot of walking involved, which is good exercise for anyone.

Swinging at the ball is also a good way to work out your body. These things will increase your heart rate, help with your cardiovascular function and will help anyone lose weight.

Plus, being outside is a great way for anyone to get some much needed vitamin D from the sun. People that are indoors a lot tend to be lacking with this vitamin and it is important to your health.

Three: Business – A good game of golf can help business owners improve their business. This is a great tool for making new contacts and finding new customers. Golf is also a great way to communicate in the business world.

Over the years, there have been many deals made in business over a golf game. So learning to play really can help you improve your business.

Be sure you learn how to play though before you are asked by someone. Not knowing how to play will look bad for you and your business in the business world. That is one of the greatest reasons you want to learn how to play.

Four: Bring you closer to someone – There have been many times that families, friends or married couples have used golf to bring them closer together. This may sound weird, but it really does bring you closer to someone. You just have to try it to believe it for yourself.

These are the main reasons why you really should learn to play golf. As you can see, there are many benefits for you to learning how to play. So, why not take the time to learn and have fun at the same time while enjoying all of these benefits?

A strong foundation in the basics is essential for young basketball players. The following beginner basketball drills teach both movement and vocabulary, so athletes can better respond to coaches’ plays during games.

Instant Response

In the Instant Response drill, players pair up and space out on the court. The coach yells a basketball move, and the player with the ball must execute the move within 3 seconds. If the player takes more than 3 seconds to recognize the move and do it, they lose the ball to their partner.

The partner then starts following the coach’s directives, until they too take longer than 3 seconds. This can go back and forth between partners for as long as the coach likes. The coach can make the moves increasingly more difficult, or reduce the time the players have to execute the move in order to make the drill continually more difficult.

Coaches can use moves such as:

Bounce pass
Chest pass
Pick and roll
Dribble
Defensive stance

Vocab Add-On

This drill is a test of memory, vocab, and basketball skills, and kids love how silly it makes them look. Players stand in a line at one end of the court. Each player has a ball.

The first player yells out a basketball move and then does it. He then joins the end of the line. The second player yells the first player’s move, then adds a move of their own, and then executes both moves, before joining the end of the line. This continues, with each player yelling out the name of all the moves in front of him before adding his own and executing all the moves.

Towards the end of the line of players, things get goofier and goofier. It becomes more difficult to remember the moves in the correct order. Players can help each other along by shouting out the correct moves.

For very young players, or in the interest of time, this drill can be split on both sides of the court. This keeps the sequence of moves shorter, and helps younger players focus and remember better. If coaches do choose to split their team in half, it can become a competition to see which half of the team finishes the entire drill first.

A variation of the competition is to see which half of the team can complete the drill without forgetting any of the sequence or without matching the wrong move to the wrong name.

The following ‘Sloka’ clearly states who can benefit through the practice of this system. “Yuva,Vrudho ashivrudhova, Durbhalo Vyadhithopiva,Abhyasat siddhi mapnodi,Sarvayogeshu thantrita.”(Yuva=young, vrudha=old, Adhivrudha= very old, Durbala=week, Vyathitha=sick, Abhyasa=practice, Siddhi= the benefits). A regular and appropriate practice makes many areas of human life better; the physical body that consists of muscles, bones, blood vessels, cells etc; the vital body that consists of energy that manifests in the form of emotions; the mind which is responsible for the thought process; the spirit that relates oneself to the cosmic self. Thus, the focus of yoga is on the holistic well-being. In the process of this, ‘yogasanas’ (postures) provide the wellness to human body. Asana alone is beneficial for rejuvenating the physique, preventing some ailments and improving or curing many illnesses that may afflict the body. ‘Asanas’ are postures that give comfort and rest in the pose. That is why it is said:”Sthira sugham asanam”. Asanas or practice of Yoga postures include stretching, forward and backward bending and gentle massaging of internal organs while appropriate concentration and breathing are resorted to.

While Asanas alone can bring about such physical wellness, Padanjali’s Yoga Suthra states eight limps for yoga called ‘Ashtanga Yoga’. The practice of real yoga, therefore, starts with submitting oneself to the universal moral principles to the Samadhi- the stage of Super Consciousness. The Ashtangasare: -Yama, niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Prathyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi. ( Universal moral commandments, self purification by discipline, posture, rhythmic control of breath, withdrawal and emancipation of the mind from the domination of the senses and exterior objects, concentration, meditation and a state of super consciousness brought about by profound meditation in which the individual aspirant becomes one with the object of his meditation- the Universal Spirit).

When it comes to the third stage- Asanas, many equate Yoga System to a set of Asanas and follow many forms which are derivates of the true traditional yoga system and which are advocated by the recent maestros. The truth is that Yoga is a very simple system that can be practiced by anybody. Though yoga is an art of body, it is not a performing art for aesthetic beauty. By watching the graceful performance of a yoga artist, an aspirant may feel that it is not the system for his/her present body conditions. Neither all can perform all Asanas perfectly nor the perfection of all Asanas needed for everybody. Even the formation of the postures, sustain and ending (Srushti, Sthithi, samhara)of it may not perfectly occur for all for every asana. It is a constant practice for perfection without straining oneself but in a most suitable manner for one’s own conditions. Thus comes the need for the guidance of a good Guru.

One may doubt whether Yoga system is a misfit for a worldly person or not. In the pursuit of perfection Yoga helps one to live a more meaningful and happy life, here in this world. Parivrachakacharya Swami Sadanada Saraswathi has structured the order of practicing Asanas for any lay man to enjoy the fruits of a healthy and contented living in this world. Not all Asanas are needed for good health and wellbeing of one in this world. It is a study, worth in itself, to know a suitable plan to begin the practice of Yoga.

Mickey Arthur, the previous South Africa coach, has accused past South Africa fast bowler Makhaya Ntini of wounding him in the back in his biography, but says he still has a lot of value for him.

The book, which will be released on Monday and is titled Taking the Mickey – The Inside Story, argue that Ntini betrayed Arthur by complaining to senior administrators after he was dropped from the squad, according to IOL sport.

Arthur claims that Ntini did not hold being dropped well and took the problem to some of the country’s senior cricket administrators, as well as Cricket South Africa President Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka and past president Ray Mali, which Arthur considered a large comedown.

“It was unacceptable at the back end of my time that he let us down by running to administrators, but I assume he was anxious,” Arthur told ESPN cricinfo.

Ntini was dropped from the one-day international side at the start of the 2008/9 period.

In the book, Arthur says the event caused him to see a side of Ntini he didn’t know, and as a result he, “lost a bit of esteem for him.” He has since added to that comment, saying, “I still have the greatest respect for him and that is reproduced in my book.

He still is a vast role model in South Africa cricket, and there are passages in the book where I am very encouraging about him.” Arthur’s journal is distant extra serious of Nyoka, whom he called a “gutless interferer.” According to Arthur, he had a breakfast conference with Nyoka, Mali and Ntini in 2008, where Nyoka make an apology to Ntini for his nonattendance from the one day side and it seems that definite him a place in place in the national squad for the next series against Australia. So that was it,” Arthur writes. “Makhaya would be preferred for the one-day squad for Australia, no issue what the coach or the selectors felt was suitable.” Nyoka and another past Couch South Africa president Norman Arendse were verbal about the need for a black African player in the national team and approximately caused a player boycott in 2008.

Nyoka also disapprove of Arthur’s team selection in January, when there were no black, African players selected to play the third Test against England.

Ntini was dropped for that Test match, and South African news services reported that he had blame Arthur and Captain Graeme Smith of not wanting black players in the national cricket team.

Both persist that Ntini was not included in the team to appearance England in Cape Town for the reason that of poor performance.

Ntini would not play for South Africa yet again and announced his retirement before this week.

He will be given a farewell party during the Twenty 20 international among South Africa and India at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on January 9, when he will build his final appearance for South Africa team.

Arthur resigned after the England series, saying that that he had a special dream to that of the administrators, but it was usually wondered that he was quitting because of interfering in selection of team.

Arthur was a shock selection for coach of the national cricket team in 2004.

Under him, South Africa won away Test series in England and Australia for the first time since readmission, and was position number one in both Tests matches and ODIs, while they did not win an ICC trophy.

Arthur has since moved to Perth, where he coaches Western Australia.

Yes, it was a wonderful summer and it was hard to say goodbye to all those long, lazy, warm days when the sun came up very early and didn’t set until very late. There was time to do all those things that we sometimes find it hard to do in the winter months when the days are significantly shorter and when the sunshine seems very scarce. We’ve had to say goodbye to that great time of year and we know we’re going to have to forge through long winter months before we see that warm weather again. Before we get too depressed, however, we must recognize that there really are a lot of great things about the cooler weather months too.

This year most of us have been able to enjoy a beautiful fall with weather that has made it possible for people to continue with the sports that they played throughout the summer months. We’re still seeing bikers everyday and the fields are full of kids and adults playing baseball and soccer. For the most part, people have been able to continue doing those things that they love. Besides that, the changing seasons have brought back some of the sports that we’ve missed during the summer months. Football, which is one of the most popular of all sports is in full swing and the stadiums are full of excited fans who love nothing more than supporting their favorite teams. Many people find that it is one of the great pleasures of life to be in a stadium on a cool, autumn day (or evening) surrounded by people they enjoy being with, treats in hand and watching their team try to come up with a win out on the field. As much as we loved summer, it didn’t offer that particular enjoyment.

Another one of those great sports that was absent during the summer months but which is now just beginning a long season is basketball. If you are an NBA fan then you’re happy to know that there are still nearly 80 games to be played before the play-offs begin in late spring. For those of us who live in cold climates, the basketball season is particularly appreciated and looked forward to as a way to help in getting us through those very long months of winter. When we’re leaving the house in the morning while it is still dark and getting home (even if it’s before 5:00) and still having it dark, it’s nice to have something to look forward in the evening hours. Maybe that’s why those NBA games are so popular. You can usually find one team or another playing on any given night. So, while it’s true that many of us still lamenting the passing of summer and all the great times that we associate with that time of year, we can be reassured that there are still lots of great sports that will be available to us during the fall and winter months.
