The Ferrari 599 GTO boasts a sophisticated technological set-up that delivers unprecedented performance and overtakes, in terms of lap times, the Ferrari Enzo itself. Just as the GTO from the 60s, the newest GTO is astonishing due to its superiority on the road and at the track. Its 6.0 liter, V12 engine produces 670 hp at 8500 rpm and sets the timer to blow past the 0-62 mph in a grin-inducing 3.4 seconds. Only 599 GTO will be produced, each wearing a numbered plate reading “one of 599″. There are custom colors and two-tone paint finishes exclusively for the 599 GTO. Carbon fiber is in evidence throughout, including in the cockpit where it is used to reduce weight and as a design element thanks to its non-reflective matt finish conveying a racing touch. The last F1 transmission allows to switch gears in a lightning-quick 60 milliseconds and gear ratios are 6-percent shorter than the GTB’s.

Ferrari dedication to GTO models is legendary, with two previous highly celebrated models: the 250 GTO and 288 GTO. In the Sixties the 250 GTO embodied the company’s philosophy of using its Formula One racing experience to develop its road cars. The 250 GTO won no fewer than three consecutive GT Titles in the World Sportscar Championship, and today it is one of the most sought-after collectors’ cars on the market. The GTO were made between 1984 and 1986 and most people refer to it as 288 GTO for its 2.8-litre, eight-cylinder engine. The GTO’s successor was the famed F40, which was the fastest street-legal production car from 1987 to 1989.

The 599 GTB’s performance is clearly tangible in the Ferrari 599 GTO. But the real incubator in the 599 GTO is the 599XX, a 700 hp track-only car. The 599 GTO’s niche is between these two cars: more menacing and less refined than a GTB, less raucous than an XX. To improve the performance of the GTO version, engineers shaved 100 Kg off the weight of the 599 GTB Fiorano F1 version. They achieved the result by reducing the aluminum skin’s thickness by 0.1mm and with a more extensive use of carbon fiber as well as lightweight composite materials. First seen on the 599XX, the second-gen carbon-ceramic discs (CCM2) are now mated to pads of the same material for increased consistency, improved stopping power and lighter weight.

Designed by Pininfarina, the 599 GTO is not only more boisterous than its parent, its look proves it. Front, side and rear aspects are bolder and more aggressive. Paint treatments and colors recall the Ferrari’s triumphant race cars of the past. Two-tone treatments, including a signature red and black, are instantly eye catching. Inside, a virtual race engineer tips off the driver when the car is ready to be driven hard. A screen reveals the engine’s status to maximize performance. The 599 GTO comes in rosso corsa with a Silverstone matt. This is what Ferrari Design Center defines the 599 GTO “basic colors”. Of course, customers can personalize their cars as they desire.

Do you like the sound of a cars sound system? Well, did you know that the sound in a cars stereo system depends a lot on the car’s amplifier? Yes this is true, without a good car amp your sound system will just sound like junk. However, with the perfect car amplifier your music will sound like if you were listening to it live. If you want to get a really good sound coming from your car speakers then you must have a good amplifier. Just like any other product a car amplifier comes in many different brands, styles, and colors. All of these factors are things that you must consider because they will make the a significant impact on the price of an amp.

The first thing that people may look for is the color of the amplifier. The truth is that most of the time the car amp will be hidden so the color will not matter because no one will be able to see it. However, sometimes you might want to customize your car so that the car amp is visible. This way you will also be able to brag to your friends about the kind of amplifier you have and you’ll be able to show them. If you are planning on leaving your amp in an open area then one thing to consider is the color of the amp. Most people like the neutral colors such as black or white. The great thing about neutral colors is the fact that you can match an amplifier to just about any type of car interior. Some people however, like to be a bit pickier about the colors so they go for more exotic looks. If your car interior is red then you can get a red amplifier to compensate. If you have a blue interior then you can also look for a blue car amplifier. If you are more in to looks then choosing a good color to compensate your car is well worth it.

Besides the color, another thing to look out for is the brand and style of the car amplifier. Usually, people will stick to the basic amp with 2 channels. This will produce a pretty good sound depending on the brand of the unit. However, others like to go all out and buy an amp with 4 to 6 channels. Usually this is good if you want to connect a lot of gadgets to your car amp. This method however, is the most expensive method and should only be consider if you plan on getting the most of your car amplifier.

The last thing to take in to mind and perhaps the most important is the price of the amp. These amplifiers can range anything from $50 to $300. There are some cheaper ones that can actually produce pretty good quality sound. So unless you are planning on connecting a lot of gadgets to your car amp then an inexpensive car amp will do the job just fine. Usually the best place to get these amps is at an online store. The reason for this is because they tend to have more selection and their prices are also better.

Not long ago, someone asked me how I felt about the future of the mobile car wash industry. What I thought were some of the challenges in the future. Indeed, I see many, and having run such a company for nearly 30 years before retirement, there are many problems I see which will impact the small business people who run these types of businesses. One of the biggest concerns is the crackdown with the EPA and the local storm water ordinances.

You see, the environmental regulators really don’t understand the business model, and they find mobile car washing and auto detailing to be big polluters of storm water. The reality is that a little bit of soap is good for the environment and most of these mobile operators only use between 25 gallons per car anyway. Further, in the future hybrid and electrical vehicles don’t get as dirty, and the dirt does not stick to them as much because the petroleum distillates and exhaust which is very sticky will not be a problem in the future.

What I’m saying is the dirt that is on the car probably blew onto the car from the dust on the ground. That dust is already in the environment isn’t it? You see, when it rains all that dust which is not on the car, but is on the ground washes into the storm drain anyway. Also, a little the soap is good for the environment as it breaks down things that should be in the environment but also gets the storm drain. Things such as grease and oil which are on the parking lots, which leak from the engines of cars are also washed into the storm drains, which is a nuisance 100-times worse for the environment.

Mobile car washers are not really big polluters, but in the environmental regulatory compliance arena, they are out in the open, and they appear to be. The environmental regulators for storm water should be much more concerned with the fertilizers and nitrates which runoff from the sprinkler systems in the center medians owned by the city itself. The other thing that environmental storm water compliance people don’t understand is that mobile car washers and auto detailers generally clean the outside of the car, not the undercarriages, as they do at the car wash.

The increased regulation on these types of small businesses is liable to take many of these companies out of the marketplace, and put them out of business. It does cost money to buy the equipment to block off storm drains, vacuum up the water, and then take that wash-water to the sewer treatment plant for treating. It also takes time to do that, often taking more time to block out the storm drains and vacuum up the water that does actually wash the car.

Because of this mobile car wash operators and auto detailers will have to double the price. If the price is doubled in this current economy, there will be most likely 80% fewer people buying the service. And therefore the mobile operator will have to drive to more locations, polluting the air, or go out of business. Sometimes the rules become too stringent, and they are nonsensical. Indeed, I care about the environment just as much as the next person but being very close to the mobile cleaning industry I also understand it more.

If the storm water regulators and the EPA really cared about the environment, they would prevent stores from selling toxic soaps that people might use in their driveway to wash their own cars. Mobile auto detailers and mobile car washes use professional grade products, most of which will not hurt the environment. The only person who wins in this over regulation of the small businesses will be the people who own all the car wash, and in fact they are lobbying hard to get the mobile operators shut down. Indeed I hope you will please consider this.

The economy is in the crapper, but thank god gas prices have come down a bit. This doesn’t mean that we still can’t save a few dollars in that department. I will cover a few different ways to save on gas and free up some money.

Driving style is probably the easiest way to save on gas. When driving on the freeway use cruise control. The car’s computer is much more efficient at keeping the car at a constant rate than you are. Wind resistance increases exponentially over 55MPH, thus driving faster uses way more gas. Set your cruise control for 55MPH to get the best MPG. Don’t accelerate hard, accelerate gently! Having a heavy foot on the gas pedal will certainly cost you MPG.

Another option is to add a fuel saving device to your vehicle. I’ve researched a few options and trust me there are a lot of gimmicks out there promising you better gas mileage and lobster for dinner every night. The technology that I have found to work the best are the chips that plug into your IAT sensor. These alter your fuel mixture to make it more lean, which means less gas and more air. There are no negative side effects on your engine but it essentially reduces the fuel that enters the combustion chamber saving you gas. There are many places to buy these chips, and it can certainly be confusing. When shopping, look for something adjustable as to control the level of effect you desire. This is good because different cars respond differently to this type modification and you can adjust it to the setting that allows your car to perform the best but yet yield you the most fuel savings. From my experiment I’ve noticed a 2-3 MPG saving, it definitely pays for itself over time. However, on the downside, the installation can be tricky if you aren’t super comfortable under the hood of your car. It requires you to cut wires for installation and that can make even the most comfortable gear head nervous.

If cutting is a no no, there are more expensive ECU programmers you can buy. However, these will run you around $400 and don’t necessarily help save gas all the time. Most of them are geared towards increasing horsepower. In theory, if you have more horsepower you will be lighter on the throttle, thus save gas.

The scent of leaded fuel saturates the air I am passing through at 150 miles per hour. Earplugs mute the outside world and draw attention the muffled vibration to the aerodynamic resistance pressure against my skull. Blue, white and red painted curbs dance in my peripheral vision until a shift light glows red. At the four hundred foot mark I sit up, stick my right leg out like a sail and squeeze my front brake. Shifting down two gears, I dip the bike into turn one and prepare for the next eight turns spanning another 1.5 miles. How will these skills learned on the track crossover into street riding?

Track riding forces rider to visualize the road ahead and adjust to the world coming at you at a high rate of speed. Keeping your eyes up and scanning the horizon, prevents accidents by spotting hazards before they have to be avoided. Watch as faster riders establish early lean angles; use one steering input per turn and accelerating through every corner. Modern motorcycles are sportier than ever, so try pushing your limits in a safe and controlled environment. Remember you’re not racing; instead, the track is a place to hone technique and work on fundamentals. Buy a $1.00 notebook and writing down tire, suspension and jetting settings to you have a baseline to refer to on your next track day. Use the same notebook to draw pictures of the track from memory and if you’re having trouble remembering pieces of the track then you probably haven’t spent enough time on the track. After logging enough miles you’ll be able to draw where you start turning, apex and begin accelerating even if you lack artistic skills. Use the rest of the notebook to scribble notes on what you are doing right and where you can make improvements because help is only a question away.

The difference between one company’s track day and another’s is more then semantics. The price charged, generally from 100-200 dollars, often reflects how much hands on instructor training a rider will receive and cheaper prices often reflex less instruction. While some riders might prefer the “let ‘em rip” approach to track days, most riders would benefit from a professional offering some critique of one’s riding and tips on improvements. Comparing faster rider’s lines with your own can be an eye-opening experience for many beginning track riders. Watching seem-less transitions from brakes to gas and lefts to rights; the advice of a seasoned rider can be priceless. A one hundred and fifty dollar experience is pretty cheap when compared to the cost of a speeding ticket and the insurance cost of more points added to your license. Many states have enacted laws mandating the suspension of a driver’s license found guilty of “excessive speeding,” a subjective term often up to the officer’s discretion. If you think you’re fast, prove it, but do so on the track because it’s the best place to visit 150 miles per hour.

Have you ever wondered about the trucks the fire department and other agencies use to deliver water? Fire departments use a variety of such trucks each designed with a specific purpose.

No one water truck can do it all. That’s why fire departments often have a variety of trucks in their fleet. They each do a distinct and valuable job.

The fire trucks or engines that you commonly associate with fire departments are made specifically to fight fires in cities or buildings. They are constructed with enough room for a team of firefighters to ride along and to store equipment for them to use. Often there is a huge ladder on board. This ladder can be raised and lowered mechanically. It is used to access upper floors in high-rise buildings. These trucks cost big bucks, which is why fire departments often hold fundraisers. Sometimes fire departments can manage to purchase used trucks to save money.

Another truck fire fighters use to carry water is a fire tanker. They carry water to put out fires and are used mostly for large outdoor fires. The tanker is not commonly used to dispense water directly. Fire fighters use it to transport large amounts of water to the fire scene.

Many times you’ll find a fire tanker connected to a fire engine. This is because a fire tanker consists of a diesel truck hauling a large metallic tank. This set up doesn’t allow much room for storage and the trucks usually hold only a driver and one passenger.

Another important truck used by firefighters is the water truck. They look like fire tankers somewhat but they have a different purpose. Water trucks are often used at mines or quarries to combat problems with dust that clogs the air.

Dust can be a problem at mines because it limits visibility for workers and nearby drivers. The water trucks help this situation because they are equipped with sprinkler-like nozzles. Operators use the nozzles to douse the air with water. This helps the dust fall to the ground and clears the air.

So, now you know a little bit more about water carrying trucks and their uses. It may make you take note the next time you see one drive by.

Brake repair can save your life. Your automobile’s front brakes are responsible for about 75% of your car’s braking ability. That means when your front brakes begin to show signs of wear or not working properly anymore, your major braking power is also compromised.

One of the indicators that there is something wrong with your brakes can include your car pulling to one side when the brakes are applied. Your car pulling can indicate several different problems, however and braking is just one of them. This is why it’s important to have a certified auto mechanic look at your car to diagnose your problem correctly. A pulling car can indicate an alignment that needs to be adjusted or it can even be something as easy as your tires are low on air pressure or filled unevenly. However if it’s a braking problem, your mechanic will see signs of a worn rotor, thin brake pads or scoring on the rotor that has led to your car pulling.

Another indicator that you need brake repair can be your car’s slow reaction to stop. If you are putting your pedal to the metal to stop and your car is still slow to stop you may need new brake pads. Brake pads should ideally be about 10-12 mm thick when they are new and they can last a long time. By the time your brake pads hit the 3-4 mm thickness it is time to have new ones installed or risk further wear and tear on your brake system.

As the remaining pad wears down more, you will begin to hear the sound of metal on metal when you apply or release your brakes. This sound is your bare brake padding, now 2mm or less coming in direct contact with your brake rotors. This means you have almost no braking power left and driving on wet, icy or hilly conditions could leave you with no stopping power.

Another indicator you need brake repair includes brakes that grab when applied. This can indicate that your rotor was scored improperly and needs to be replaced.

Other than brake pads, other parts of your brake that may need to be replaced or maintained include your rotors. Your rotors usually have quite a long life span but how often they need to be replaced depends on a variety of factors including your driving habits, the type of car you drive, where you drive and the quality of rotors themselves. Rotors can be shaved down or “turned” so the metal is once again as smooth as new and you can get some more life out of them. Once they have been shaved down as much as they can however your next brake repair job will likely be to replace the rotors.

These tips should help you figure out when you need to replace your brakes and when you may be able to maintain and repair what you’ve got for a little while longer at least.

It is now less than 2 months till Christmas and the excitement is growing rapidly with people everywhere. People will have to start thinking about getting Christmas presents for friends and family and getting in the festive mood. But there is one group of people who get their Christmas early when people are busy with their festive plans, and that is car thieves. Car crime has always seen a rise over this time of year with older cars being the main target.

With the Christmassy time of year comes a lot of stress for families. People find they just have too much to do with not enough time to do it in. Buying gifts is also stressful for people and they simply can’t keep up with the pressure they are being presented with. As people’s thoughts are elsewhere simple things like locking the car can slip their minds and car thieves are very aware of this.

For example when out shopping people may load up their cars with all last minute items and gifts then go back for more or to return a trolley, this is when they are most likely to forget to lock their car. This allows thieves to easily get in your car and take what they want and if they do this in a subtle way, no one around will raise alarm. Last year there were also cases where drivers had simply left their keys in the ignition whilst going shopping so this made is very easy for the thieves to get in to the car and drive off without any trouble or difficulties. It seems like a daft thing to do but it has happened! We all know that by leaving valuables out on show you are tempting a thief to break in to your car and take them but during the festive period you need to be extra careful not to do this.

Not only do car thieves operate around parked cars on the streets and in car parks but they are now hanging around peoples drive ways on early mornings. This time of year also brings frosty weather, cold temperatures and motorists leaving their engines running while they defrost their car. Just when the owner goes back into their house to get warm or finishing getting ready the thief is away with their car before anyone has even noticed. You should never just assume that your car will be OK as it’s on your own drive and never leave your keys in the engine.

To ensure your car is secure and not targeted by car thieves make sure you park it in a well lit and security patrolled area and ensure that all goods are firmly locked away or hidden well. Don’t take the risk and make sure your Christmas is as stress free as possible.
