Agility is considered to be one of the most important attributes to become a better baseball player. Since baseball is a kind of game where swift movements are extremely essential in order to win, every player strives to achieve agility by undergoing baseball drills for youth. A player’s fitness is defined by the way he accelerates, decelerates and changes directions in a swift manner.

Speed, the ability to change directions and reduced response times are enhanced whenever a player undergoes agility drills. Players will be able to achieve greater infield coverage, a quicker break to run down a fly ball and to have the ability to field a ball of the mound as quickly as possible.

There are different baseball drills for youth that master baseball coaches recommend and these are lateral bound, base rotations and the three hurdle drills. Lateral bound drills greatly help in lateral speed. It is of tremendous aid in hitting, planting and cutting. In order to practice a lateral bound, a player must stand on his right foot and jump as high and as far as possible to his left and land on his left foot. Repeat the same using the left foot.

In base rotations agility drills, one must imagine that there is a large X on the ground. Then place your feet at the terminals of one leg of the X. Square up your shoulders and rotate the hips 45 degrees. Rotate the hips so that the feet move from one leg of the X to the other. In order to ensure the rotation of the lower body, you need to sweat your abs and core. Take note that the shoulders should be square and then proceed to pump your arms in the opposite direction of the legs. Make it a point to practice this agility drill for two sets of around five seconds and then work it up to a level of two sets of six to eight seconds.

The three hurdle drill is a type of baseball drills for youth that will enable them to have a more rapid response by quickening the feet. This will greatly improve the fielding range and greatly lend a hand in reducing the reaction time and pushes the speed and quickness for base running of the players.
