Employee Motivation

An employee is the backbone of an organisation’s success. Employee and the organisation he works for, both should strive constantly for mutual growth, progress and success stories of each other. Just like an employee works his full potential for an organisation’s growth innovating and improvising on his work; for an organisation also it becomes a real need to keep the employee inspired and motivated at every phase. The motivation can come in any form of appreciation either cash or non-cash incentives.

Most of the employees prefer an incentive as a hike in their salary or cash benefits, since more money drives them to work harder. The non-cash incentives also can keep the employees inspired, for eg. gifting a paid vacation, a travel package, a gift voucher for a dinner or to buy anything worthwhile, laptops or any new tech savy devices. But if the organisation is undergoing a bad economic growth, this kind of motivation is really not a wayout considering the company’s status. And so in this kind of a scenario it is always a challenge to retain the employees interest or commitment.

Now, they need to think of smarter ways to keep them motivated. How?? That is where the humanly aspect comes in. An employee always craves for attention and constant appreciation, does not matter in what form it comes. So there can be small incentives in the form of spot awards or special awards for special performers, considering their performance for the month. There can also be small weekend outings or team lunch arranged with informal discussions to keep the team members together, to understand their thoughts and opinion of the current scenario.

Appreciation is what is expected by all for any work done efficiently. It can be a mail praising ones work or a company certificate recognising the effort put in or a pat on the back with a couple of words of appreciation. Constant discussions and friendly gestures with the employees always bind them to the organisation, since its only a human nature to care and be cared for. Influencing and encouraging new thoughts and ideas among the team members also nurtures their interest in the work and keeps them motivated.

There will be loop holes in any domain we consider, but it is always possible to avoid major disasters by taking some simple steps of maintaining a positive relationship with the employee, by respecting his work, his views and his opinions. Motivation is like a software which works in a human being automatically to yield positive output, only the organisation has to install it properly in the source without any critical errors or bugs.
