Make Parenting Easier

With so much gear to buy for a new baby, is it really worth buying a baby sling? Is it high on the priority list? Should you wait a few months until the little one is a bit older? If you buy a pram, is it sufficient or should you buy a baby sling as well?

In our experience, a well-chosen, good quality baby carrier is an essential buy. In many parents’ opinion, it is even the most important purchase for their child. There are hundreds of reasons to buy a baby sling. Here are just the top two we have heard from parents and how it made their lives a lot easier.

Putting babies to sleep can be one of the most frustrating aspect of parenthood: rocking babies to sleep can take hours for what can turn out to be a very short nap. If you are not comfortable leaving them to cry themselves to sleep, which has been proven to have detrimental effect on their development, then having a comfortable baby carrier will be a great help. Pop the baby in the baby sling and find yourself putting him to sleep while having your lunch, tidying up the house, meeting friends for coffee… When he is asleep, you can keep him in the baby carrier or lie him in his cot.

Get dads and relatives involved: you have done the pregnancy, the birth, you are breastfeeding, let others do the ‘babywearing’. ‘Babywearing’ (the practice of carrying a baby in a baby sling) is a powerful way for the carer to form a strong bond with the baby. It is ideal for fathers who enjoy looking after the baby. They can go out for a walk while mum catches up on a well-deserved nap. Sending relatives out for a walk with the baby in the sling is also a good way to give them something to do so they don’t find themselves idle at home giving unneeded advice.

There are hundreds of reasons to buy a baby sling for your newborn, and these are just two of the ones we have heard the most frequently. It helps to buy your baby sling before your child is born so that you can familiarise yourself with the baby carrier, read the instructions, look up on-line videos if need be, and even practice with a teddy.
