What Is My Credit Score?

When we reach 18 years of age, and can apply for our first credit card, that is a big step in our life. Not only is it a big step, but it can also affect your future and your credit down the road.

There are a lot of teenagers that think they know how to use a credit card, but really, they don’t. They don’t always know that they must pay it off in full to avoid interest rates, they don’t know about the fees that sometimes come with them, that paying late or missing a payment can ruin your credit for years, or even some cards can reward you with certain things like cash back or even gift cards.

When it comes to credit cards and your future credit, there is a lot to learn. Many things will affect your score. Just missing a payment a few times, paying late, not paying the minimum balance or opening up several accounts can hurt your score. It is important to find out how your score fluctuates by the things you do. It is also important to learn what the credit score range is. What is a good score, what is an OK score, how bad is a score to where you can’t get loans or good rates? This is all stuff you will learn over time, but for now, I’m going to tell you how to figure out your score right now.

Websites: You will want to search the Internet for legitimate websites. These websites will usually have a good PR at the top, will have a good reputation, and only good things said about them.

I highly recommend that before you sign up with a website and before you give any of your information away, that you check reviews on that particular website. There are way too many scams out there, and for you to find out your credit score you will need to give your social security number. In doing so, that can be dangerous if you give it to a scammer or put it in the hands of someone that shouldn’t have it.

But, most websites are legit, and will give you your score in just minutes of filling out your information. So do your research, check reviews, and go with a site that looks safe and one you’ve heard of before.

As you can see, there aren’t too many ways to find out your score besides on the Internet. Just make sure you’re always careful when giving away your information.
