Choosing The Correct Insurance Services And Products

With so many insurance services and products available on the market, I often find myself wondering if I am adequately insured for everything that life throw through my way… or if I’m living in a bubble of denial by thinking that I am untouchable?

We cannot simply approach each day with the attitude of “it will only happen to other people”. A lot of unforeseen circumstances can occur in one’s lifetime! You can be involved in an accident and get seriously injured. Your car can be badly damaged and in need of serious (expensive!) repairs! Your business can burn to the ground due to a freak accident. You can fall seriously ill and end up in hospital for an extended period of time. The list goes on and on!

As much as we’d like to believe that we are invincible, the reality is that we should be prepared for the unprepared and make sure that we will be properly taken care of in the case of an accident or emergency.

If you are not sure which insurance services and products are applicable to you, the following information might help you out:

One of the most common types of insurance is car insurance. Every person who owns a car should invest in car insurance. This can be in the form of full comprehensive insurance, liability insurance and third party insurance, only to mention a few.

The next obvious type of insurance is house insurance. It is important to understand that you need to insure both the contents of your home (television, furniture etc) and the structure of the home (against fire, flood damages etc). These two examples should be even further explored. Some policies will only cover your home contents while it’s in your home, other policies while it’s being transported too. Some policies will cater for the rebuilding of your house in case of a fire, but not for the initial cleaning up before the rebuilding can start. Take some time to think which insurance services would be required in your specific situation.

Next on the list is life insurance. If, for example, you are the breadwinner of the house, you want to be sure that your family will be taken care of in case of yourself being seriously injured, disabled or dead. When you are no longer able to provide for your family, your life insurance policy will assist your family and loved ones to lead a comfortable life.

Medical insurance often comes in the form of medical aid. By paying a monthly contribution you are covered for anything from visits to the doctor to medicine, dental procedures and eye exams – all depending on your medical aid plan. It is also possible to take out hospital insurance to cover your expenses while you are in hospital. You can also consider a combination of both a medical aid and a hospital plan – once again, all will depend on your specific needs and requirements.

Do proper research on the different insurance services, products and companies to ensure that you are properly prepared for everything that might cross your path!
