You Should Not Use an Adoption Dog Service

At first blush, many people think that an adoption dog service is a great idea. After all, they are given the story of how great it is to help out and take care of a dog that has been rescued from a dangerous or unhealthy environment and practically beg for your help in adopting the pet. This all sounds well and good except the reality is far different from what they portray in their advertising. Here, we take a closer look at some of the reasons why you should get your dog from some other place besides an adoption dog service.

  • Too restrictive.
  • The rules to get approved for a dog are simply too restrictive. This may be great for helping them find great owners for these pets, but it also create unnecessary barriers that keep other great pet owners from want to see the process through or simply be unable to adopt under their rules. These restrictions can frustrate some into even not getting a pet at all which is unfortunate as many dogs need homes and many people in this group could provide this duty easily.

  • Too time consuming.
  • One of the things that many people want is to start having a dog immediately. They don’t want to be a part of a long drawn out process that can take months on into over a year. Dog Adoption services often are characterized by an inefficiency in process that requires long delays before a pet owner can even get their pet. This provides an unnecessary barrier to many who could be helping that pet immediately rather than 6 months or a year down the line.

  • Expensive.
  • What the commercials don’t tell you is that the adoption process is not cheap. It almost seems like there is a belief that one must spend a great deal of money on a pet for you to be a good owner. This is simply not the case and unfortunately, these services also require some sizable expenses upfront just to accommodate their paperwork.

  • Limited options.
  • By choosing a dog adoption service, you are also limiting your options in what dogs you can find. This can be a big mistake as the dogs that may be best for you may not be available. It is also worth mentioning that many of these pets will have some development issues which provide a greater barrier to proper dog training and cause you to have to incur additional costs. It may sound harsh, but it may simply a better idea to go with other dogs that do not have these problems.

As you can see, dog adoption services are not without their warts. For many prospective dog owners, they simply will not be the best choice for them. Please let others know that these services are not their only option as many other great dogs still need a home.
