There are government-ordained rules around the scrapping of cars according to which you have to ensure that you scrap your car in an environmentally friendly manner. After you do so, you are usually handed a Certificate of Destruction. Unless you get a hold of that certificate you’re still liable for the possession of your car. In some areas, there are state-run yards that are equipped to handle the destruction and recycling of scrap car. In other areas, there are state authorized yards that do the job. Before, you send your car over to a scrap yard you must find out whether they have a valid license to operate and handle scrap car.

Before you get down to finding a scrap yard, there are things you must do to ensure that you squeeze out the last bit of profit you can make out of your scrap car. After all, why let some one else profit out of your car, if there is any money in the car it is only fair that you should make it. Scrap car yards have no requirement for anything that is not metal, they want only metal and anything else will only bring down the money you make out of it. So before you send your car over to the yard you should dismantle it and remove everything that is not metal. The first thing when you get down to it and even before you touch any other part of the car you should remove all kinds of fluid from the car. This includes wiper fluids from the windshield, brake fluid, transmission fluid, oil, and radiator fluid. After you’re done with that you can remove the battery, the radiator cover and the radiator itself. Next you should remove the brake fluid container, the carburetor, the starter, the distributor cap, the air filter, and the spark plugs. You should also ensure that you have removed all wires. Next you should remove the engine, the exhaust system, the transmission, the seats, door panels, carpeting, dashboard, and steering wheel.

You should leave the tires because they will be helpful in towing it away. Once the car is in the junkyard and they have lifted it, you can take the tires off and bring them home. You can make a neat hundred bucks out of the deal plus more if you can sell the engine parts.
