Dog Training

Dogs are often called as man’s best friend and they act like humans from time to time. They don’t like to be pushed around. If you push their chest, they would also retaliate by pushing back. It is not advisable to push them around especially if you are trying to walk an untrained dog. The more you pull the collar against their necks, the harder they will also pull away from you. It is natural for dogs to do that but you can still be able to train and help your dog.

  • The walk does not start when you hit the sidewalk but it starts when you pick the leash up. Dogs are smart and they would be energized when they see opportunities for them to go out and enjoy the sun. Avoid connecting the leash to the collar when you see them begging, dancing and staring at you while you are holding the collar for you are just rewarding them with something that you do not want them to do.
  • Always instruct the dog to sit and stay when you have the leash in your hand. If the dog already knows this command then things will work out faster. If not, they will soon learn it. Don’t forget to tap the head of the dog or give some freebies every time the dog follows your command.
  • When the dog is on the leash, always bring them back and command them to sit before you open the door. Don’t open the door until the dog is calm and collected for you are trying to control them and avoid letting them control you.
  • You can now proceed to walking on the sidewalk but provide the dog the freedom to walk by holding the leash while keeping it loose at the same time. If the dog moves too fast then just stop and pull the leash but don’t yank it, command the dog to sit and stay then wait for ten seconds before moving again.
  • Always praise and reward your dog when the dog walks correctly.
  • Always keep your dog to your left and don’t let your dog cross paths or you will be exhausted when they do it. Control the pace and the path but give them freedom to move by keeping the leash loose.
  • Always do your part and avoid punishing them. Dogs are sensitive animals so you should always give them the tender, loving care they deserve while at the same time giving them clear instructions on proper behavior. When you learn to control your dog instead of having the animal control you, walk times will be an enjoyable time for both you and your dog.
