How Upper Cervical Care Can Eliminate Your Back Pain

How Upper Cervical Care Can Eliminate Your Back Pain

What is upper cervical care?

Cervical is a term that means relating to the neck. And upper is referring to the top most part of the neck. It is a safe, natural and drug-free chiropractic procedure that is scientifically proven to restore communication from the brain to the body by realigning the first and second vertebra of the neck. This correction revives your body’s natural ability to heal itself

It is the secret to optimal health.

The upper part of your neck consists of two vertebra. It consists of the Atlas, the first bone of the neck, and the Axis, the second bone of the neck. These two vertebra enclose the main connection between the brain and the rest of the body, the brainstem. The brainstem is part of our central nervous system. It controls everything in our body including: cardiovascular system control, respiratory control, pain sensitivity control, alertness, awareness, and consciousness. The rest of the spinal column encloses the spinal cord which is an extension of the brainstem, however, is not as specialized in its function.

If one of these first two bones misaligns it can put pressure on the brain stem; this is called an upper cervical subluxation. Mild to moderate irritation of the brainstem can result in sickness and disease due to interference in the brain-to-body communication.

As long as these two bones are in alignment, there will be 100% communication between the brain and rest of the body. This allows the nervous system to maintain it’s normal healing processes. Once corrected, this is when you start to move towards true health and getting rid of your back pain once and for all.

How does the body respond to this?

The body adapts to the subluxation between the head and neck by making the tailbone or sacrum crooked. The ribcage will passively twist because it’s in the middle of the column that is twisted one way at the top and the other way at the bottom.

Other forms of care may alleviate pain temporality, but if the Atlas is not properly set, the full spine kink will return to compensate for the upper cervical subluxation.

Not only will you have biomechanical changes in your body, but physiologic changes will occur as well.

Since the spinal cord runs inside a canal in the spine, when the body compensates for the upper cervical subluxation the spinal cord will get torqued. The spinal cord is an extension of the brainstem. It is also composed of many different tracts that send messages back and forth between the brain and every part of the body. The outer most tracts convey proprioception (where your body is in space), pain, and temperature to and from the brain and the body. This is why symptoms can be present anywhere in the body with an upper cervical subluxation.

How do you correct the upper cervical subluxation?

It is your Upper Cervical Doctor’s specialty to detect, analyze, and correct an upper cervical subluxation. An upper cervical doctor will use paraspinal infrared thermography (heat readings) to monitor the function of your nervous system as well as specific, upper cervical x-rays to determine how the bones of your neck have misaligned and to what degree.

The doctor will adjust your spine specifically, without any twisting, pulling or yanking of the neck. Once the correction is made and the pressure has been removed from the brainstem, the body’s natural self-healing process will begin to restore.

It is not the goal of to cure your pain or remove your symptoms. They will go away on their own after being under care and your brain starts to communicate with your body at 100%. The goal is to remove the subluxation so that your body’s own healing processes can take care of any dis-ease, including back pain.

Health in a nut shell

We are all born with the innate ability to heal ourselves. When this ability becomes diminished, a state of dis-ease occurs. This is known as interference. Interference can result from physical, chemical, & emotional stressors.

In order for healing to occur, the body needs no help, just no interference.

As mentioned before, upper cervical doctors use paraspinal infrared thermography to determine where the interference is at in the nervous system. This interference shows up in our body like a pattern. Just like a fingerprint, our bodies have unique patterns embedded within them.
